Lake Kerkini is located in Northern Greece and is one of Europe’s top bird watching destinations. I’ve visited the area twice – January 2017 and January 2018 – on a photography holiday. On the first trip Lake Kerkini was frozen due to a really bad winter. This meant we were unable to go out on the lake and photograph the dalmatian pelicans from a boat. I returned a year later to experience photographing the birds as they flew alongside the boat and landed on the water.
My trips to Lake Kerkini were taken with a photographic holiday company. Although the trips to Greece were excellent I no longer can recommend them. However if you are considering a trip to this location then take a look at Wildlife Worldwide. Whilst I’ve not travelled with this particular company I was guided by Sean Weekly in Lake Kerkini. Sean is a top class wildlife photographer and an excellent guide to travel with.
