A Royal Mail postbox usually wouldn’t usually be top of the list as something to photograph. However as well as honouring Team GB Olympic Gold Medalists with a special edition stamp, The Royal Mail are painting a postbox in the winners’ hometowns gold. Geraint Thomas won a Team Pursuit Gold and he’s been honoured with a postbox in Cardiff!
The postbox can be found opposite Cardiff Carnival – and it was attracting a fair bit of attention from the football crowds making their way to the Millennium Stadium for Team GB v South Korea.
Could this become the most photographed postbox in Cardiff? Currently it’s only one of two gold postboxes in Wales. The other is in Wrexham to celebrate Tom James’ win in the Men’s Coxless Four.
Personally I’m hoping Dai Greene brings home the gold tonight so that Llanelli gets it’s own gold postbox! It’d also be nice to get some shots of the painting in progress – like these ones from deadyankee on Flickr.
